Hikmet, a teenage asylum seeker from Iraq - now residing in Hull,
UK, - who is also a talented musician, was awarded £300 for an
individual project from Humbermouth 2005. He received a further
£200 from The Warren to re-record the CD and do a video clip.
The CD can be to sell or for Hikmet to use as a demo version for
his portfolio or to obtain work/gigs.
Hikmet played his music at the Gig in the Garden event during
Refugee Week in Hull in June 2005. It received rapturous
applause from the audience.

Hikmet continues to develop his musical talents. With the help of
the Warren Centre for young people, Hikmet produced his first
music video. He has been in touch with local radio stations (Viking
FM and BBC Radio Humberside), about the possibilities of being
featured on radio. With Viking FM, he contributed on the
production of a campaign to dispel myths about asylum seekers
and refugees. Hikmet has been recommended to festival
promoters and record producers. Hikmet was featured as one of
the main artists at 2005’s refugee week ‘Gig in the Gardens’ event.
